Is it an invasion of privacy if we put our private thoughts and photos on social websites and let people other than our friends and family see them ? Who really reads the terms of use and conditions in an online privacy statement? We just click the checkbox and continue. If we had to read every line, no one would ever sign up for a social networking site. How can users protect themselves with the forest of privacy options so they can get the most out of Facebook, MySpace and Twitter with the least amount of risk? The more information a user gives to the social network, the greater the risk that someone can misuse or steal information. Most users do not understand how to protect themselves and follow the necessary steps for protection in cyberspace. There are several problems with adding contact information to your profile. If you do not lock this information to the friends with whom you want to obtain such information, anyone who views your page can obtain your contact information such as your cell phone, your IM screen name, your address, your city and your email address. According to system website geek Cryptome, a whistleblower site has gotten its hands on Microsoft's "Global Criminal Compliance Handbook," a comprehensive 22-page guide outlining the monitoring services Microsoft performs for law enforcement. on its various online platforms, which includes detailed instructions on extracting IP addresses (Quigley, 2010).
