Essay / Leadership Roles of Managers - 854
The criteria used to determine the effectiveness of leaders are the influence one has on others, the way you interact with people, your effort and motivation, as well as the performance of individuals. . I agree with the idea that there is a difference between leadership and management because I am a leader. A leader is a person who has a positive influence on individuals. A manager is a position in which you are responsible for duties and rules following guild lines. Not all managers are leaders. I was working as a manager at a telephone company and I was really not good at all. I think I got the job because of my ability to calm angry customers, explain policy, and close good deals within the company's means, but I didn't have the skills to lead the people I led. what best identifies my manager is the leadership role, she is a principal at a middle school where it is considered an at-risk school district. Even though she is in a management position, she is also a leader, and I believe you need to be a bit of both to do the work she does on a daily basis, I wouldn't want to trade with her. She is obliged to delegate a project once a month and each time she entrusts us with this project/mission that she is in charge of, she really does research with us, she believes in herself. She is a strong motivator and positive role model, she always encourages us to the point that we believe our department is the best rather than achieving that goal or not. She has a very compassionate heart and is so humble even when she has to deliver bad news. She's a team player and loves teamwork, she paints her face, wears silly hats and or...... middle of paper.... ..Our board is made up of nine members who all live in this big city. The focus is on our students and their parents, they are priority number one. However, the question asked is: they are all leaders. Well, let me explain to you, in my opinion, why they aren't. I have been with this school district for eleven years as of March and we have had nine superintendents, three high school principals, and two human resources directors. If their interest is the student, why are we, the staff of 7 schools, unhappy and unmotivated? The school district is an at risk school district and I feel like incompetent people are in charge of the school and therefore they are leaders, not in my opinion. However, what I believe is that if an organization is successful it is because of effective leadership, but that is hard to measure when you have great staff..
