    Animal rights activists simply want to end all ongoing research, regardless of the consequences, and believe that any use of animals by humans, in any way, should be prohibited. The National Institute of Health has announced plans to reduce the use of chimpanzees in biomedical research and will also retire most of the primates it currently uses. The retired chimpanzees will join more than 150 other chimpanzees in the federal sanctuary system. The most extreme are a group of people who encourage criminal activity, harassment and violence towards animals. The most extreme are trying different tactics and the most recent is targeting organizations that involve animal research by attacking professors who work for companies that provide them with information dating back to the mid-90s. Some extremists engage in illegal behavior such as intrusion and criminal vandalism, even the most serious.
