  • Essay / Avoiding Conflict in Hamlet - 1524

For example, Ophelia is conflicted because she doesn't know what to think about her relationship with Hamlet. Additionally, her father, Polonius, tells her to end everything she has with Hamlet. Ophelia is very dependent on men to tell her how to behave, which doesn't help her current complicated situation with Hamlet. Ophelia begins to think Hamlet is crazy after he starts sending her to a convent. Then Hamlet accidentally kills Polonius and Ophelia is stricken with grief. She goes crazy and drowns. In the unfortunate events that led to her death, she never resolved anything with Hamlet. Shakespeare demonstrates once again that avoiding conflict will ultimately benefit no one and might just kill.
