  • Essay / Application of Technology in Classrooms - 1935

Technology has revolutionized not only the social aspect of society but also the education system. The purpose of applying technology in classrooms was to facilitate student learning as a form of "preparing students for careers, practical applications of mathematics and science, thinking skills criticism and life” (Dettelis 1). Integrating technology into schools has not been easy, but not impossible. Due to the immense impact and changes that technology has had on society, education was bound to change. A report submitted to the New York State Department of Education, stating "[a]t a time when the world has become increasingly dependent on technical solutions to problems, educators are challenged to provide individuals a technological culture within the framework of fundamental education” (Dettelis 2). In this excerpt, Dettelis challenges educators to provide students and teachers with “technology literacy,” so that they can better adapt to the new technology-dependent era and take advantage of technological changes. Figures like Barbara L. McCombs, who discusses the importance of learning-centered psychological principles (LCP), a project she presented to the National Governors' Association, as a focus for formulating a solution to the crisis of education of the 1990s, also emphasized the need for technology and technological education in schools, from kindergarten to grade 12, as a form of increasing the "likelihood that a greater number of “students experience success” (McCombs 7). Petitions like this one called for change involving the integration of technology into different education systems around the world. Due to the technological impact on society, the education system has been forced to incorporate and enforce the use of technology in schools...... middle of paper......
