  • Essay / Birdman Film Analysis Essay - 1875

First of all, the way I select films has changed. I'm now a little more willing to watch an older film in black and white. I'm also more likely to select a foreign film with subtitles. However, I still have a hard time choosing films that aren't critically acclaimed. I'm more willing to watch a black and white film, but only if it's directed by Alfred Hitchcock or Orson Welles. The same goes for foreign films. I also changed the way I analyzed films. Now, when I watch a film critically, I find that I judge a film based on more than just the story and the acting. I'll look at what happens to get that shot or how difficult it must have been to edit certain scenes. I think it's made me a little more forgiving when reviewing a film. In the past I thought a movie wasn't good if I didn't like the story, but now I can look past things and judge it by the cinematography and set design. I think I've started to understand that cinema is an art form and that it deserves to be treated with more attention than most people treat it. I now understand how difficult it is to make a film and be a part of it. I'm still working on correcting my flaws as a viewer and I believe that will come when I take the time to see more.
