Ramon Menendez (Stand and Deliver)Stand and Deliver, a 1988 film directed by Ramon Menendez follows the true story of how teacher Jaime Escalante, played by Edward Olmos in his Oscar-nominated role, takes a group of poor students in a rundown school and defies all odds by getting them not only to learn, but to want to learn Throughout the film, proof that being disadvantaged does not mean less intelligent, Stand and Deliver. shows that with hard work, motivation and desire, anything can be accomplished. The film begins with the arrival of a new teacher, Jaime Escalante, at Garfield High School in East Los Angeles. he discovers that the computer course he thought he would teach does not exist, because the school does not have computers. In turn, he is responsible for retaking the general algebra course. the film depicts the school as one in decline and with students facing poverty. The class he receives is full of students who, according to other teachers at the school, are unintelligent and incapable of learning much of the material. Students cannot be expected to learn subjects when the teachers themselves do not believe in studying... middle of an article... the idea of equal opportunity and , no matter what, anyone can accomplish whatever they want. think about it. The movie Stand and Deliver tells us a true story of hard work and perseverance. The kids in this movie prove everyone wrong when they buckle down, give up their Saturdays, their summers and, therefore, their fun as high schoolers, and learn what no one but Mr. Escalante doesn't. believed he could. While some, like Henry Giroux and Robert Scholes, seem to only see the negative and misleading aspects of video texts, as can be seen in Stand and Deliver, there is still a belief in representing good morals in the world . Mr. Escalante teaches not only his children, but also those who watch the film, that no matter where you come from, success is measured by hard work and your desire to achieve it. If you have these things, anything can be accomplished.
