I previously spent time volunteering at horse rescue ranches and participating in educational activities at several community centers and churches. However, the best experience I have recently gained spending my time in a natural environment and park-like setting. Working at Koreshan State Park has been a pleasure and has allowed me to pursue my goals of being involved with local organizations involved in the preservation and restoration of our historic sites, beautiful parks and natural habitats. During my later years of college, I became fascinated by the need for our society to take immediate action to protect the environment. Reading "Restoring the Earth" (Brown, 192-198) was actually instrumental in me determining to choose one of the local state parks, as a "natural habitat" where I could personally participate in the restoration and preserving our local ecosystems, while fulfilling the service-learning requirements for the symposium class.
