President Theodore Roosevelt was our nation's most incredible president. He cared about every aspect of our country. He was remarkable, brilliant and strong. He brought something different to the presidential legacy table. His personality, however, was unlike any other, he was impossible to follow. He was also brash and willing to bend regulations to get what he wanted. With the assassination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt became the youngest president in our nation's history at just forty-three years old. He brought new enthusiasm and new power to the presidency. The revolution of his life brought to the world many events and new ideas. Roosevelt was a Republican and an excellent leader. His vision of a better and improved United States captured the attention of the entire country. Roosevelt was not only a good leader as president, but also in every leadership position he held. Prior to his presidency, Roosevelt served as congressman from New York, police commissioner of New York, assistant secretary of the Navy at the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, second in command of the Rough Riders in Cuba, and governor of New York. York. He was a man of many accomplishments, but he clearly also knew how to be an exceptional leader. While serving as police commissioner, he restored the department, promoted merit-based promotions, and put his fellow officers to work to serve the public as they should. Roosevelt created a group called the Rough Riders as a volunteer force to liberate Cuba from the Spanish after the USS Maine exploded in Havana Harbor. During the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt served as lieutenant colonel of the Rough Rider Regiment. He accomplished a lot and he literally circumvented what would have been impossible. He fought for perfection and a better America and provided his country with effective leadership. He defined the presidency as something that must be accomplished to the fullest. He allowed the presidency to do the unthinkable and he kept smiling while doing it.
