Data InvestigationAfter assigning student data from a school given a fabricated name, I will use that data to follow a line of inquiry. According to the data I have, there are 1,200 students in the school, where 599 are boys and 601 are girls. Below is a table showing the number of girls and boys in each year group. Year group Number of boys Number of girls Total 715015030081451252709120140260101001002001184861707, 8, 9, 10, 115996011200 I also have details of each student on the following: Name, Age, Age group, IQ, Weight, Height, Hair color , Eye colour, Distance from home to school, Usual mode of travel to school, Number of siblings, Key Stage 2 results in English, Mathematics and science. This information indicates that I have (1200 x 14 =) 16800 reference points from which I can follow a line of inquiry. For my statistical investigation, I will study the relationship between IQ and the key results of Stage 2. Due to the problem of having a different number of students each year, I will use a stratified sample. I already know that I have 1200 pupils in total in the school, depending on this and the number of pupils in each year group I will work my stratified sample of 4%; because 1,200 is a large number of students to investigate with. Year Fraction of students each year Number of students in a sample of 487 Boys 1,501,200 150 x 48 = 612,007 girls
