  • Essay / The Adult Sex Industry - 941

When talking about the adult sex industry, you need to understand the differences between human trafficking, sexual slavery and prostitution. A person must also consider the reasons why another person would choose prostitution as a means of income over any other employment that does not include the buying and selling of sexual services. One must be able to sympathize with individuals who choose prostitution and be able to take into consideration certain factors that may lead an individual to engage in prostitution as a means of economic commerce. These factors may include: the country in which these people live, their living conditions, their education, their social and economic status and various other reasons. When understanding the topic of prostitution, an individual must realize that it is one of the oldest forms of commerce and understand that prostitution is a profession and, in most cases, a choice as a means of survival. Despite the fact that human trafficking and sexual slavery have become a giant social problem, the topic being initially covered in Kate Transchel's article Opinion: Behind the myth of the 'happy prostitute' was based on prostitution and not on human trafficking or sexual slavery. Instead of starting her debate on why she believes prostitution is wrong, unfair, or any other opinion, Kate Transchel deviates from the topic of prostitution by trying to identify the reasons why sexual slavery and human trafficking exist, claiming it is because of men. Finding this statement completely biased and having no proof of truth. Kate then continues her article with the story of a young woman who was tricked into a human trafficking transaction by another woman. Any evidence Kate may have had regarding the men's fault is now completely erased. Then in K...... middle of paper ...... the seas would decrease as well as the percentage of human trafficking. such as protecting and giving rights to those in the sector. Human trafficking is defined on my wikipedia as the purpose of sexual exploitation is a major cause of contemporary sexual slavery and sexual slavery is defined as the organized coercion of unwilling people into different sexual practices. Often, the government arrests and fines individuals involved in a consensual sexual transaction, without making any real attempt to reform the system if they want to. I feel like governments involved in banning prostitution are creating a revolving door system, where they reap profits from individuals. I believe that if the money generated by the illegality of prostitution was used to track down those involved in human trafficking, it would end sexual slavery..
