lower class, preference of sons over daughters, etc. Those who find themselves in an inferior situation face neglect, discrimination, violence and prejudice throughout their lives. People with fewer opportunities and little or no education are unable to stand up and speak for themselves because they are unaware of how government works and what their own rights are. Marginalization: In Indian culture, some people have little control over their own lives. and resources, these are people perceived as having little use and therefore excluded. The Encyclopedia of Public Health defines marginalization as “being placed on the margins, and therefore excluded from the privilege and power found at the center.” There are many marginalized groups within every culture, so I'm going to focus on the one I saw on our trip to GSJ: women, people with disabilities, children, and caste (because I think this plays a role within rural communities). Women: The marginalization of women is a manifestation of serious gender inequality. Women are excluded from certain professions, jobs or services and forced to choose others. Overall, they are almost always marginalized, like men. Women, even in the United States, still belong to an inferior group.
