Essay / The History of Orion's Belt - 799
Orion's Belt is one of the famous constellations of our galaxy. There are 3 stars which form the belt, their names are: Mintaka, Alnilam, Alnitak, which comes from Arabic. In the myth, Hera, the wife of Zeus, sent a scorpion to kill Orion. The belt is a system of stars around which sister stars orbit. Every star is potentially bright. The Mintaka star is a supergiant star located 1,000 light years away. The star is also 10,000 times brighter than our son. Being the westernmost star in the belt, it is 60,000 degrees Celsius. Alnilam, the middle star, is also a supergiant. As close as it sounds, it is actually 1,000 light years from Earth. It has the coolest temperature of these three stars, which make up Orion's belt. With a temperature of 50,000 degrees Celsius, it is 18,000 times brighter than the sun. The star Alnitak, the last star, is dimmer than the others. It is exactly the same mass and surface temperature as the Mintaka star. It is 7,000 times brighter than the sun. This star is only 900 light years from Earth. The myth of how the constellation entered space is something we will never know. Some Greeks heard legends and stories about Orion, but it didn't exist. In some legends, he is seen fighting Taurus, the bull. The star Aldebaran is the bull's eye. During the night, many individuals say that the stars can be seen around 8:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The Alnitak star is a hot blue super giant, it cannot be seen by the human eye, due to the immense amounts of ultraviolet radiation. In other myths, Orion is said to have been put into the sky by the goddess, Artemis, after she was tricked into killing him. When he fought the scorpion, he realized that its weapons and strength...... middle of paper ... were associated with the constellation of Aqhat, a famous mythical hunter. The war goddess Anat fell in love with him, but after he refused to lend her his bow, she attempted to steal it. However, the man she sent to retrieve the bow badly botched the mission, killing Anat and dropping the bow into the sea. This is why, according to myth, the constellation sinks below the horizon for two months in spring. Another amazing site, directly related to the Orion constellation, is located in northeastern Arizona. Here, the Hopi Native American tribe has inhabited these peaks of the Colorado Plateau for over 1,000 years. High above the Arizona desert, their reservation, spanning more than 1.5 million acres, includes 12 villages. According to research, the Hopi landscape and myth of the tribe are centered just like Orion..
