Boring. Plain. Static. This is how students in school uniforms perceive the issue. While their reason may be related to individuality or simply hating change, research by Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky, a psychologist and professor at the University of California, showed how a simple change in self-control can actually have a positive influence, not only for the moment but on the long-term effects. Although Dr. Lyubomirsky focused on happiness [that a simple smile, fake or genuine, can manifest true happiness], his argument is rooted in the subject of psychology; The psychology of change and its positive benefits. The problem for opponents of school uniforms lies in the overrated subject matter of the First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or restrict freedom of expression or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. This right to freedom, supposed to be celebrated and not questioned, had in reality brought thousands of confusions to many. A slight misunderstanding can differ one point of view from another. The arguments revolve around the question of how much freedom is too much. And the introduction of school uniforms will surely make the civil rights issue headline news, an expected event in the Land of the Free. Too much talk about freedom of expression leaves aside another major problem: social discrimination, so evident among children, especially in secondary education (Gale 2 group). Who is the rich kid, the geek, the cheerleader, the jock, the loser? , etc. Without a school uniform, the different social classes of students are easily identified......middle of paper......10.
