    Symbolic interactionism could be applied to this topic as it could help explain why people fail to engage in activities to help stop environmental changes or to actively engage in these activities. For example, if someone buys organic produce or makes sure to buy special groceries intended to save the rainforest or spends time recycling, they may be labeled as hippies or environmentalists of a way that has a negative connotation. People often don't like to stand out, so if something like this happens or they're the only one in their neighborhood putting out that green bin on recycling days, chances are they'll stop. Symbolic interactionism also highlights people's perceptions on environmental issues that they form from public attitudes. So if half of our country says environmental change is not a problem, not much will change. From this, if people and organizations are not united and speak out about what they see as a problem and how to solve it, action will fail once again.
