Randy Pausch-Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood DreamsPrashant MalyalaRandy Pausch was a computer science professor who did pioneering work in human-computer interaction and virtual reality at Carnegie Mellon University. The final lecture, which covered a variety of topics, was a whimsical and passionate speech delivered by Dr. Pausch, truly reflecting his courage and leadership. The talk is summarized in the following paragraphs with comparisons to Kouzes and Posner's leadership model, and how I can take these strong life guiding principles and put them into practice in my own life. The talk focuses on the importance of overcoming obstacles, enabling the dreams of others, and truly enjoying every moment of life. The talk follows a sequence of events beginning with Dr. Pausch's childhood dreams reflecting his self-awareness as he talks about various life lessons learned and how a person's life is shaped by various life experiences, good and bad. Dr. Pausch lists his childhood dreams and presents to the audience what he learned from each of those in his dreams, either through achieving them or failing while trying. Some of his dreams include experiencing weightlessness, publishing articles in the World Book Encyclopedia and winning stuffed animals in theme parks, which he achieves in life and talks about the feeling of The accomplishment and pride you feel in achieving something you always wanted as a child. For example, when his research team submitted a proposal for the "Vomit Comet" project to NASA, Dr. Pausch discovered that only students are allowed to experience weightlessness under the program. Nevertheless, he relentlessly continues to question the process while ensuring innovation...... middle of paper ...... the Center for Entertainment Technology knows that it itself has a big role to play in its success. Pausch mentions that every individual will show their good side if we wait patiently and that no individual is purely evil. I think it's something I can really apply in my life, because I'm a person who forms an opinion about someone very quickly and has a really hard time changing it over time. Also, the concept of brick walls in life being there to show your dedication and make you stubborn is something I will remember in life in the future. This talk given by Dr. Pausch truly demonstrates courage, appreciation for life and the very simple concept of "work hard and have fun while doing it" which results in great success. A very tearful watch but one that delivers a strong life message and made me reflect on my own life and see things in a positive light..
