Everyday Use by Alice Walker An interesting thing about "Everyday Use" by Alice Walker is the fact that it seems to be told from the mother's eyes , rather than one of, arguably, the main characters This only allows the reader to see Mom's bias in the whole situation. Because of this bias between her children, the reader can see the stark contrast between. the two sisters Alice attempts to portray the importance of accepting heritage and the vulgarity of neglecting the purpose of things for one's own pleasure. Maggie is presented as someone who was timid and walked like "a lame animal" sneaking around. towards someone who "was ignorant enough to be kind" (156) This is partly due to his awareness of the scar that scatters his arms and legs, in comparison, is the picture of confidence. walks and talks as if the world owes her everything she asks. She feels powerful to get away from what she considered a prison. While Maggie is humble and kind, Dee will not hesitate to demand things and is ruthless in her pursuit.
