    “We may be puppets controlled by the strings of society. But at least we are puppets with perception, consciousness. And perhaps our awareness is the first step towards our liberation. Stanley Milgram made groundbreaking discoveries in the field of psychology through his numerous experiments on obedience and the ability of people to have an effect on the actions of others. From one of his experiments was born “The six degrees of separation”, which are still studied today in psychology courses (Biography). He would become “the man who shocked the world” with a single experiment. Stanley Milgram was born in New York in 1933 (Miller 1997). He was the son of Jewish immigrants, Adele and Samuel Milgram, and he had an older sister, Marjorie, as well as a younger brother, Joel (Raver). Milgram graduated in 1950 from James Monroe High School in just three years taking heavier course loads than other students (Raver), then received his bachelor's degree from Queens College in 1954. After graduating from Queens, Stanley decided to continue his studies and obtain his doctorate. from Harvard while studying under Gordon Allport (Miller). He wrote his dissertation on cross-cultural comparisons of conformity in France and Norway from 1957 to 1959. He used a technique developed by Solomon Asch, to whom he was later assigned, to work as a research assistant. During this time, he became familiar with Asch's experiments on conformity and his interest grew rapidly. Stanley Milgram received his Ph.D. in psychology from Harvard University in June 1960.
