  • Essay / Don: An Indian Action Thriller Film - 2187

Don is an Indian action thriller film, released in India on April 20, 1978. The film is directed by Chandra Barot, produced by Nariman A. Irani and written by Salim. -Jave. The lead roles in this film are Amitabh Bachchan (Don/Vijay), Zeenat Aman (Roma), Pran (Jasjit/JJ), Helen (Kamini) and Iftekhar (DSP). The music composer of this film is Kalyanji Anandji. The film included five songs sung by various playback singers, such as Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Overall, the film was one of the popular Bollywood films. Don is a film based on the character Don/Vijay, played by Amitabh Bachchan. Don is the leader of an underworld gang, who is the most wanted criminal by the Indian police. Don is a very powerful and controlling criminal. When Don discovers that a member of his gang (Ramesh) decides to leave his gang, he murders him. Ramesh's murder then creates two new enemies for Don. Both Roma (Ramesh's sister) and Kamini (Ramesh's fiancée) plan to take revenge for Ramesh's murder. Kamini makes a first attempt to trap Don and deliver him to the police by seducing him. Unfortunately, Don murders Kamini and escapes the police. However, the plot twists when Don is murdered during a scuffle with the police. Don dies in the backseat of DSP's car and as only DSP knows about this incident, he hastily buries Don in a cemetery. The plot moves forward when DSP discovers a person named Vijay, who is a lookalike of Don. Vijay is a common man who takes care of two parentless children. DSP trains Vijay to look exactly like Don, so he can find key information and imprison people associated with the underworld. On the other hand, Roma is unaware of Vijay's identity, so assuming Do...... middle of paper ...... has a different rhythm. The first antara then leads to a small instrumental break where dholak and ghungroo play. The antara then continues without an instrument and is presented in the form of an alap. Finally, the mukhdra is the outro of the song and slowly fades away accompanied by dholak and ghungroo. So, thanks to the amazing voice of Kishore Kumar, the song touches the hearts of the audience listening to it. To conclude, in my opinion, this movie was notable for its unique songs. Don's music composer, Kalyanji Ananadji has created some remarkable songs. He used a combination of Indian and Western instruments to enhance his songs. For example, in the song “Jiska Mujhe Tha Intezar”, he has beautifully combined saxophone, trumpet, dholak and bells. Therefore, Kalyanji Ananadji's achievements took Indian music to the next level and made his compositions for the film Don unforgettable..
