Choosing between a public or private school for your education is as important as deciding where to invest your hard-earned money – the consequences influence your life forever. In the United States, the law requires that every child be educated. However, the decision of where to go to study is up to each individual. There is much debate as to which option is better: private for-profit schools or the local public school. Ultimately, the decision is made based on the needs and abilities of each student; but if the opportunity arises, attending a private school is more advantageous. Private schools offer a better quality of education than public schools. Notable alumni and students, a specialized curriculum, along with dedicated teachers and school pride make this possible. One of the most important attributes of any school is the people, students and faculty members, who are part of it, and this is one of the main factors supporting private schools. Students from any community can attend private, for-profit schools. These academies do not limit students to a certain city or district like public schools. Through this, students meet many new peers they would not otherwise have met and thus see new perspectives. The best way to learn something is to listen to those who have already experienced it. Many alumni have graduated from various private schools and have achieved success. One scholar who has studied the subject said: “It is no coincidence that politicians, athletes, journalists and judges come from private schools” (GIC Database 1).
