The September 11 attacks were caused by terrorists hijacking planes from the United States and flying them into major American monuments. Terrorists are people who use violence to achieve political goals. One of the goals of terrorists is to create political change by instilling fear in a society they despise. They achieve their goals by using fear against the government. Targeting innocent victims and important locations has been the preferred method of terrorism over larger terrorist attacks. The terrorists used many different tactics. In the 1960s, many terrorists participated in bank robberies and hijackings. Currently, tactics used include kidnapping, murder, arson, train robbery, bombing, and one of the most horrific hijackings. There is no proven way to completely prevent terrorism; however, it can be controlled using border patrols. Border patrols, however, would not prevent suicide attacks. Suicide attacks could hit and damage many different targets. Some targets include government buildings, military bases and more. On September 11, 2001, suicide attacks reached a whole new level. It was the worst attack on the United States since Pearl Harbor. The September 11 attacks affected America immensely due to the massive killings and fear that followed. On September 11, 2001, America experienced a major tragedy with the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. A group of terrorists, calling themselves Al-Qaeda, hijacked American planes and flew them to three American properties. The World Trade Center towers were one of the tallest buildings in the world before the attack.
