In the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, the main characters have dreams in their lives. Mom dreamed of moving her family out of the ghetto, into a house with a yard where she could take care of a yard and space for the children to play. Beneatha dreamed of finishing her studies and becoming a doctor who could save her race from ignorance and save them from death. Walter dreamed of becoming rich like the rich people he knew. He dreamed of becoming rich by owning his businesses and making more money to support his family, as rich people do. On the other hand, Ruth dreamed of starting a happy family. She believed she was going to own a bigger and better place to live while raising a happy family. According to her dreams, Ruth's is the most commendable character because she opted for happiness first and then the other things might happen later while her family is happy. She is the most admirable character in the play because she only cares about the love of her family and has never been motivated by material things. One of Ruth's dreams is to have a happy family. Throughout the novel, Ruth remains a strong woman with fortified dreams. Ruth longed for a happy family and a happy marriage. Her marriage to Walter regularly struggled with problems, but she strove to rekindle their love and create a happy family. Even though they were going through a financial crisis and living in poverty, Ruth tried to satisfy her family with what she had to make them happy. Plus, she just wanted to have a family that was full of love and happy with what she could afford. This is evident when she tells Mom, “There’s something going on between me and Walter.
