Essay / The American Response - 1369
America's two most recent wars are the War in Iraq and the War on Terror. Both wars achieved their objectives, but they came at a high cost. Many factors in these two wars affected international security. First, I will analyze the two wars and then interweave them to show the overall effect they created on America. Let's first look at the war on terrorism. The war on terrorism began after the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda attacked America on September 11, 2001. America responded with a military offensive against terrorist groups in Afghanistan. The main targets in Afghanistan were Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Many scholars agree with what America did in this situation. In Robert J Art's A Grand Strategy for America, he believed that in the event of a terrorist attack on American soil, America should respond forcefully and that is exactly what it did. The presence of Al-Qaeda affects the international security of the world. The United States responded by working to “cut off the soul of terrorist groups, their access to territory, funds, equipment, training and technology.” The United States' goal is to weaken terrorist organizations in order to deter their ability to resort to violent acts. By trying to deter acts of terrorism, we can create a safer world. “Terrorism increases the risks and costs of doing business, whether in diplomacy, manufacturing or sales. » This has big consequences if the world wants to let terrorism roam free. Not only is there loss of innocent lives, but many underdeveloped countries of the world are also affected by abundant terrorism.
