Essay / gay marriage - 1713
In today's society, beliefs and views of marriage have increasingly developed different ideas. Homosexual relationships are becoming more and more accepted in our society. However, these couples are not allowed to marry, for many reasons. We cannot demonstrate to what extent legalizing same-sex marriage would harm society, or even benefit us. People who are actually gay seem to be becoming more and more accepted. Seventeen states have legalized same-sex marriage. For example, California, Iowa, and Maine are just a few of the many states that have already allowed individuals to marry someone of the same sex. One might begin to wonder what exactly the problem is. Why is same-sex marriage despised and at the same time permitted? There are always two sides to every question, either for or against. These rules, or commandments, that God has in place were meant to be followed completely. The question, however, is whether God established these rules because they were right, or whether He established them because He could. I have an idea why these rules were proposed, but what if these rules were extreme? Would individuals still choose to follow them? I certainly wouldn't. I don't respect certain rules that seem wrong to me. One of the ones that is close to my heart is allowing homosexuals to marry. They should also be allowed to do what their happiness entails. If God wanted us to be exactly the same, he would have made it that way, but for some reason we are not...
