Essay / The Persistence of Motivation - 836
Flextime is short for "flexible working time" and simply means that it allows employees to express discretion over when they arrive at work and departure time from work. (Robbins & Judger, 2014) Although with flexitime, employees are still required to work a specified number of hours per week, it is up to their discretion how and when they work those hours. Flexible hours allow employees to fit their work schedule around their personal schedule. This is especially a great advantage for parents. A parent with flexible hours can ensure that they won't miss sending their child to school, a play, or a class party because they can adjust their work schedule to suit these things. I had a part-time job with flexible hours. I had to work a set number of hours per week and some of those hours were at a specified peak time, but if I had to arrive later or leave earlier that day, I could adjust my hours based on those hours. I took advantage of it while my son was in kindergarten and never missed any of his classroom events. This allowed me to stay very motivated in this job, to make sure I did the best job possible in order to stay in this position and retain these people.
