  • Essay / The Concept of Leadership - 1356

From my discussions in class, I realized that there is a large imbalance in our research on leadership. We discussed the definition, purpose, characteristics, and process, but each day after class I come away with the feeling that less and less is known about the curious concept of leadership. It wasn't until I was discussing the course with a colleague that I realized that discussing leadership was a tongue-in-cheek way to learn about it. Leadership is expressed in action, and many are considered born leaders because they embody the concept we are trying to grasp. Learning to lead requires that we emphasize the important contributions of the body in the process of developing a leader. The way we currently learn leadership often leaves me confused and unsatisfied because the concept must be understood through action. New developments on the connection between the mind, body and human consciousness play an important role in how we approach the development of future leaders. Applying new developments in student affairs practices can be helpful in developing a system to reach a wider audience of learners. Leadership training: a mysterious necessity Educating students to become leaders in their field is a noble mission because it aims to train people capable of positively influencing results towards a specific goal. It will take leaders to feed and house the world, resolve an increasingly multinational complex, and reestablish the value systems of nations built for the people. Education plays a valuable role in revealing the information and knowledge needed to lead effectively in a certain area, but it is not effective enough in measuring the true value of its contribution to leadership development. ..... a theory of embodied authentic leadership.
