Essay / Internal Baseline Analysis: The New York City Fire Department emergency. Advances in wireless and audiovisual equipment only came into effect in 2013; this would have allowed the FDNY to obtain a better assessment of fires and medical emergencies in previous years to reduce the risks and fatalities that occurred. Funding is always a factor and the department cannot always afford to invest in new and experimental equipment. If one area needs more funding, it is more than likely that funds will be reduced compared to another area that is currently underfunded in that department. Reducing the budget to create funds will likely be reduced in administrative departments as this is where I noticed a lack of budget and funds that could be generated for employees and even for materials to be used. Added to this factor is the training of key personnel in handling the new equipment and its various functions. For example, mobile ePCR (electronic patient care reporting) was built in May 2011 and uses new wireless technology that sends patient information in near real time to hospital emergency rooms. This use of computer tablets has been successfully tested in the Staten Island borough, but has still not been successful in the other four boroughs.
