Many people's New Year's resolutions include going to the gym more often or eating healthier and watching their calorie intake, but do they commit to them? And what does healthy eating mean for each of these people? Does this mean only buying organic foods? Many people claim to only buy organic foods, but how is this different from the typical processed foods that fill grocery store shelves? People who only buy organic foods typically cite some of the following reasons: they are safer, more environmentally friendly, and healthier. (Watson, 2012) In the following paragraphs, we will delve into more elaborate explanations of these meanings and examine how organic foods compare to non-organic foods. Is there a difference between organic foods and non-organic foods? The size and shape of food is an important factor that grabs our attention from the start. If all labels and signage were to be removed from the grocery store, would you still be able to identify which products are organic and which are not? Organic foods appear to be “imperfect,” meaning that most of the time they will vary in size and shape. Some melons may be larger or smaller and others may be more ovular than circular.
