Harriet Tubman Underground RailroadThe Underground Railroad was a root of slave escape that slaves used to move from the South to the North to the free states. There were many conductors on the railway. One of the most famous conductors to work on the railroads was Harriet Tubman. She was born in 1820 and lived until 1913. No one officially knows the official date of birth of Harriet Tubman. She was an abolitionist and was born a slave. She escaped in 1849 and used the railroad to get to Philadelphia. She returned to the South more than a dozen times and helped more than 300 slaves escape. She also helped her brother, parents, and friends escape as she returned south. She talked about the anti-slavery conference. Harriet Tubman attached herself to the union forces. She also helped free more than 700 slaves. Abolitionists were very unpopular people during the time of slavery. Most abolitionists of this period did not have the courage to confront public opinion.
