    In the 21st century, many people around the world face the nightmare of being extremely overweight. This is mainly due to the type of foods we eat, an increased sedentary lifestyle and other factors such as stress. Being overweight has a cost, the most deadly being the risk of contracting new diseases associated with excess body fat, which largely contributes to the many deaths we experience around the world today. In medical terms, extreme overweight is called obesity. Obesity is excess body fat associated with health problems (Stettler et al 1). Research carried out by various individuals and institutions highlights the fact that obesity is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. The main known causes of obesity are: lack of sleep, stress, certain medications, too much fast food, depression, bacteria in the gut, too many carbohydrates, certain viruses and little or no exercise (Rossen et al 35).
