Although it is not a requirement to attend an allopathic school, I plan to do so. I believe that learning the manipulation techniques offered in osteopathic programs will not benefit me as a cosmetic surgeon. Competitive applicants to allopathic medical schools must have a GPA of 3.6 or higher and must take the Medical College Admissions Test known as the MCAT (Robinson, 2014). I plan to apply to many medical schools, but for now my main school of interest is the University of Virginia School of Medicine. This school evaluates an applicant based on the following: academic achievement, healthcare and volunteer experience, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and personal interview. My school of interest values authenticity and seeks to find passionate and engaged students. That being said, they encourage but do not require research, community service and volunteering. The University of Virginia School of Medicine has no science or humanities requirements, but suggests students take courses in cell biology, biochemistry, human behavior, and statistics, as these courses tend to to be useful in medical school. (University of Virginia School of Medicine, 2013). These suggested courses coincide with the new MCAT2015 which will contain revised sections and scoring from previous versions.
