As with any reader, perspective is essential and is different from everyone else's. From my own perspective, I see two sides of the speaker's personality. The poem said "When I went out as a man of God" (10) and concludes that the speaker could be a priest, which actually ties the whole poem together. Initially, I had thought that the speaker might have been a man who had lost an important person in his life and was blaming God for taking that person away from him, but it is the priest who is closed off from the outside and cannot judge but simply believe that the plan is good, even if it does not seem good. At the beginning of the poem the speaker referenced the song "I Want to Be More Like Jesus" by Keith Green, the song is about how Jesus can live with all the sin and how he handles it so well, and Green wants to be like Jesus because he cannot bear all the sins he has endured. This song is strongly linked to the poem because the priest sees with the naked eye all the sins that exist in the world and he can do nothing about it, which adds a lot of weight to his morals and
