Why is there such a need for a new fire station in the City of Excelsior Springs and what would be the best location for the fire station(s) new barracks? These are two very important and critical questions in determining the current effectiveness of the Excelsior Springs Fire Department versus its potential for effectiveness. To determine the answers to these vital questions, much research has been done in many different areas. The fire department was examined, analyzed and compared to similar departments nearby. The city was surveyed to identify current risks, as well as future risks and requirements of the city. Coverage and response standards were reviewed. Current response times were also analyzed. After finding and analyzing all information and data, it will be determined whether or not there should be additional fire stations in the City of Excelsior Springs and where they should be located. The Excelsior Springs Fire Department is a municipal fire department organized to provide fire and emergency medical services for the preservation of life and property to the City of Excelsior Springs as well as certain parts of the surrounding areas outside the city limits. Fire department functions include, but are not limited to, fire suppression, advanced life support ambulance, hazardous materials mitigation, rescue, fire safety inspections, and public safety education. There are 41 employees in total. There is the chief, a deputy chief, an administrative assistant, 3 deputy chiefs, 3 captains, 12 basic emt firefighters or paramedic firefighters, and 20 paid volunteers/volunteers. The department consists of 3 pumpers, 1 quint, 3 ambulances, 2 brush trucks and 2 chief vehicles.
