It is a tool for communication across languages ​​and cultures, bridging gaps between races and a way to share knowledge and experiences. Interestingly, this is the very reason why internet usage has been controlled and subjected to close surveillance by the government in many countries like China, North Korea and even the Emirates United Arabs. The reasons for implementing such restrictions include issues of national security and preservation of cultural values. Among the two, perhaps the more questionable reason that this essay aims to discuss is the question: Does Internet censorship actually preserve cultural values ​​in the UAE? Internet censorship in the UAE was officially implemented in November 2012, which caused much dissension and outcry from the public. The law was approved at a time when the country was experiencing its highest Internet usage rate and demographic penetration at 70.9%, up from 51.2% in 2007 (Ning Shen & Shakir 2009).
