  • Essay / Comparison of Tom Stoppard and Shakespeare - 1222

Tom Stoppard and Shakespeare – Is there a comparison? Hamlet is one of the most historically memorable plays identified among the many credible works of the famous William Shakespeare. The author has used a wide range of reactions and tones for the main character – Hamlet – who is keen to avenge the death of his father by his uncle – the new King Claudius. Although Hamlet does not know earlier that Claudius killed his father, as soon as this is revealed to him by the ghost, he embarks on a journey to seek revenge and ends up being portrayed as a tragic hero. The play itself is a tragedy that details the journey its main character takes to avenge his father's death and how his friends turn against him and end up with his father's killer – King Claudius. The purpose of my essay is to read the details of the play Hamlet and compare it with that of the play written by Tom Stoppard in order to identify the common factors that link them together. The factor that sets the play Hamlet apart from other notable works by other artists is that Shakespeare is able to influence his audience by weaving a gripping yet tragic story of a vengeful son. Shortly after his father's death, Hamlet's mother married Claudius, making him the new king of Denmark. Hamlet is heartbroken to find that none of his family or the royal family are able to express their grief over the death of his father, the late king. The play Hamlet is written in the form of a constant poem throughout the play. A good example of the author's poetic position is that of “It would seem, madame! No, it is, I don't know, it seems. It is not only my ink coat, good mother” (Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, page 199). Unlike p...... middle of article ......tz and Guildenstern received a lot of care and attention from the author. He was able to describe the mundane daily life, their view of Hamlet and their ability to make decisions. Although the play contains examples of Bring derived from the play of Hamlet, it is quite different and is not about the main character of Hamlet – the son of the dead king. In addition, both plays have their own theater setting in which the players re-enact the murder of the old king, they have their own distinctive features that set them apart. Through this essay, I was able to understand the difference in the use of language, prose and poem by the two authors who are considered two of the most renowned authors. The Hamlet, the Rosencrantz and the Guildenstern are dead and aim to offer the audience a distinct experience unrelated to regular life..
