  • Essay / Compare and Contrast World War I and World War II - 1074

Which World War Was Bigger? Both World War I and World War II were two major wars that significantly changed the way the world is today. World War I began to modernize the way the military fought wars; However, World War II completely changed the world, especially in America. World War II gave way to civil rights movements, women's independence, and increased military power. The war allowed African Americans to fight on the fronts alongside white troops overseas, sparking the civil rights movement when they returned home to segregation. Women rallied for men absent overseas and appeared in factories themselves to help make supplies and weapons for the war. The new weapons used on the front lines have been improved compared to the previous ones. First lady Eleanor Roosevelt said, "The nation cannot expect colored people to feel that the United States is worth defending if they continue to be treated as they are." Currently" ("Turning"). The increased number of bombing raids increased the need for improved radar technology. The radar used previously was imprecise and of little use; but thanks to the improvements, the army was able to see enemy ships or submarines and return fire. One of the most important elements that made World War II more important than World War I was the use of nuclear war. The United States dropped the world's first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and another bomb on Nagasaki three days later. The Japanese quickly surrendered and thus ended World War II. America dropping the atomic bomb showed the world what a significant threat the United States poses, especially to Russia, which was another great nation at the time. The atomic bomb created terror and panic for all to see with mass fear
