Essay / The impacts of mobile phones on young generations
INTRODUCTIONThis report aimed to clarify the significant influence of mobile phones in general and in particular on young people, its positive and negative aspects in terms of social life, security, health and studies, as well as real evidence obtained through recent research. The idea of communicating using a mobile phone was first introduced in 1947 by Bell Laboratories (Merlin Thanga Joy, 2010), and it was initially designed to support the businessman and not to support personal life (Campbell, 2005). However, according to (Aoki and Downes, 2003), the mobile phone has gradually become an essential part of the daily lives of younger generations. The first section will draw readers' attention to the popularity of mobile phones among young people. The following section discusses the positive sides of the cell phone in terms of supporting adolescents. On the other hand, the third section would explain the downside of the cell phone when it negatively affects young people. Finally, the last section would discuss whether young people should use mobile phones or not by weighing the pros and cons using statistical results. THE MOBILE PHONE AND ITS INFLUENCE First, Figure 1 shows that the number of subscriptions gradually increases as the population increases. and reached 6.8 billion out of a global population of 7.1 billion (International Telecommunications Union, 2013). Furthermore, Table 1 briefly illustrates the situation of the world in 2005 in terms of mobile usage. The total number of subscriptions was around 2.1 billion and concentrated in 15 countries, including the United States (202 million) and the United Kingdom (58 million) (Merlin Thanga Joy, 2010).
