  • Essay / Qualities of a Good Teacher - 1040

The Future is on Our ShouldersThe future of America depends on the children of this nation; To make intelligent and responsible adults, we must start from the beginning of their learning experience. The reason I would like to be a part of this process is because I look around and see children myself disrespecting their elders like it's no big deal, and I hope to help them . The career I would consider would be an elementary school teacher, and the reasons behind that would be the qualities of a teacher, helping the future of America and promoting academic diversity. The first reason I chose teaching was the qualities of a good teacher and the qualities that I personally know very closely. Some of the qualities of a good, successful teacher, according to Chris Lehmann, founding director of the Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia. Some of the qualities Mr. Lehmann stated of a good teacher would be a passion for teaching, a love for children, a passion for the subject and a work ethic that doesn't give up. I have only cited four of the twelve qualities recorded by Mr. Lehmann in a blog. The reason I mentioned these four is because this all relates to me, since I was in high school I help teach dance to kids in my neighborhood and I help with teaching at my school dance and I loved it. It's an incredible feeling when you do a good deed and have the respect of younger people and a few older people; I felt this way when I was teaching, and every time I had to teach a class, I would never be filled with fear, of not wanting to go and of "wasting" my time, as my friends said, with little kids , no, I have never seen it. in this way. That's another thing, kids, I love kids and working with them. Every time I... middle of paper ...... I call on children to be able to lay the foundations for equality. Equality for everyone is important to me, and even though I was raised the way I was, I tried to fight for it every step of the way and it seems to have worked for me. It was hard, but it was worth it. As Dr. Guofan Wan said: “From current terrorist activities, racial conflicts and gender differences to schoolyard bullies, most of them arise from misunderstandings and intolerance with regard to the differences and diversity between people” (Wan 140). So the problem is clear: everyone assumes that people who are different from them are bad, and to make change we have to start when they are young. Dr. Wan continues: “…educators in particular are faced with the task of preparing young people to live with each other in today's diverse global community in a harmonious, successful and productive manner” (Wan 140)
