  • Essay / The documentary Super-Size Me - 1063

McDonald's, one of the fastest growing fast food restaurants in America, has made more than its share of money over the past twenty years, serving more than 46 million people daily. They have twice as many restaurants as Burger King and more restaurants than KFC, Wendy's and Taco Bell Combined. Children often dream of eating fast food for every meal of the day. Well, Morgan Spurlock took on the challenge to see how dangerous it would be to eat McDonald's with every meal. He also took on the challenge in response to a lawsuit filed against McDonalds by a family whose children had become obese because of the contents of its meals. Directed and starring Morgan Spurlock, married to a vegan chef and a healthy man for his age, Super-Size Me is a film that followed Spurlock for 31 days as he followed certain rules established by a series of doctors . He was only allowed to eat meals off the McDonald's menu, including water. Additionally, he couldn't exercise but had to take the same number of steps as the average American. Filmed across the United States, Super-Size Me was made to educate the public about the manufactured foods they eat every day. The film also raises awareness of the dangers of manufactured foods on the body. Super-Size Me showed how one of today's most popular fast food restaurants could lead future generations to serious health problems. First of all, my personal reaction to this documentary is a revelation. I knew that McDonald's was more harmful than other fast food places, but I had never heard of the lawsuit between McDonald's and its consumers. I never considered McDonalds to have a big impact on my life; it's probably because my hometown McDonald's never had a full-size option. In the video, Spurlock conducted interviews to win... middle of paper ... food would be good for them, and they could eat it without having to second-guess themselves. However, something like this documentary comes along and shows that in reality, McDonalds doesn't care if we get fat or have future health problems. Either way, they will still get their money. This documentary could be used as an eye-opener to educate young people on how nutrition and exercise can lead to a longer lifespan, fewer health problems and stronger bones. I fully support this documentary and everything it shows; it can lead to a healthier future and Americans should take advantage of this opportunity to create a healthier future. Super-Size Me gives an in-depth look behind the scenes at the world's largest fast food chain and gives audiences a cautious look into the future. Works CitedSuper-Size Me. Dir. Morgan Spurlock.
