Computers are omnipresent. As our society moves toward an Internet-connected culture and the prices of these machines gradually decrease, more and more families are purchasing them for their homes and, as a result, children are starting to learn how to use the computer earlier . age. Even if computers are not currently available at home, a child will almost certainly have access to them at school or the library, among other places. Today's adults are amazed at the amount of knowledge a child has at such a young age – children generally find that computers give them a sense of power and accomplishment. “A computer is nothing more than a box of circuits that perform software tasks for a user. Even software is little more than instructions to hardware to perform specified tasks. Therefore, a computer, in itself, is neither positive nor negative. Its inherent goodness or evilness is determined by the user. That being said, there are many positive, as well as negative, associations that come with owning a computer. On the positive side, computers provide us with a vast amount of resources and information and, as a species, have made us much more intelligent. Individually, it has allowed us to become more informed because we can easily find the information we need, although if the Internet were taken away from us, we would become less intelligent. As the human race becomes more interconnected, this means we have more capabilities and the Internet connects us all into a single "super brain" that is smarter than any individual. Another example of computer technology is “SMS”. Humans can now communicate instantly and easily over long distances, but there is a common misconception that "texters" are "idiots... middle of paper...... computers are a great invention s They are used with discretion. I use a computer almost every day to help me do my homework, chat with friends, or even entertain myself by watching a movie or playing a game. I find computers to be a stress reliever, a “gateway to another world” where everyone can be whoever they want if they discover they’ve had a bad day at school or work. Although I maintain this positive attitude towards computers every day, I find, even in myself, that I have become slightly addicted, which prevents me from sleeping as much as necessary or allowing me to do my homework without distraction. Overall, however, I have found that computers have made me more knowledgeable, even if not specifically about school, and have prepared me for a future where computer use will be inevitable.
