  • Essay / The advantages and disadvantages of optical fiber - 2353

Even though optical fiber is very efficient and offers better technology than others. But it also has some disadvantages. One of them is system reconfiguration. Updating any work area with fiber optics can take much more time and money because each piece of hardware and software must be updated according to the fiber optic needs. Sometimes it is very good to send data at high speed from serial rather than parallel cooperation. The modification will be necessary at both hardware and software level and it will always create data transmission problems because small differences in old programs can cause big problems. We would send something and the recipient would receive something else; which would be totally illegible. This whole procedure of modifying everything will therefore be very expensive. The second most common problem with optical fiber is that it does not have good limitations in the local network. According to senior management, it will take more time to change everything despite fiber optics. Updating the current network with fiber optics will require a lot of effort and changes that management is not willing to make. And then people are happy with what they have. Plus, with local area networks, it would take a lot of money to change everything to fiber optics and update each machine with a new program. Actually, in conclusion, the main problem with fiber optics is that it is very expensive and it will be cost effective because then every hardware and software will have to be updated gradually..
