    As the campus leader responsible for the planning, use, and oversight of curriculum and teaching, based on the tasks in this course, I would address the full range of responsibilities I would have and be able to offer teachers a multitude of strategies to ensure programs are engaging, relevant, taught and tested . This role of responsibility would require an understanding of the different facets of education involving administration, educators and especially students. Additionally, as a curriculum leader, it will be necessary to stay informed about scientific principles and practices and how to implement them successfully. Covey (1989) stated, “Beginning with the end in mind means beginning with a clear understanding of where you are going” (p. 98). Traditional instructional design, linear and compartmentalized, does not have the capacity to develop greater and deeper understanding among students. With the increased rigor of high-stakes testing, these methods are simply not effective teaching practices. A more holistic and interrelated curriculum design model for teaching and assessment can be supported by Understanding by Design, UbD. This begins with a design sequence that involves three steps: 1) start with the desired outcomes, 2) identify the evaluation evidence, and 3) develop the learning plan (Wiggins & McTigue, 2005). In order to identify the desired outcomes of a particular student unit program, I would work to train teachers to establish what goals must be achieved, what knowledge and skills must be acquired, and what "big ideas" students must understand.
