Essay / Jimi Hendrix - 755
Jimi HendrixJimi Hendrix once said "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will finally find peace." I am here today to tell you about his journey to try to make everyone understand it. Yes, Jimi did more than just play guitar. This is the love and times of Mr. James Marshall Hendrix. James Marshall Hendrix was born on November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. James had a somewhat difficult childhood as he faced many obstacles. His father soon divorced his alcoholic mother, who later died in 1958. Years passed and Jimi continued to live with his father and attend elementary school. His father introduced him to the guitar at the age of 13 and taught him to play. James loved acting but never pursued it as a child. In 1959, Jimi was kicked out of high school due to bad behavior. Jimi enlisted in the United States Army. But he injured his back during a jump and was therefore released on medical grounds. As Jimi Hendrix grew up, he turned to his guitar skills when nothing else was working for him. He joined a blues and rhythm circuit that traveled playing at different Nashville restaurants. Jimi was just a sideman and made little money, if any. Then Jimi met a man named Curtis Knight who was the lead singer for Curtis Knight and the Squires. Hendrix and Knight quickly became close friends. Knight knew the music industry and helped Hendrix. Although Knight helped Hendrix, he also hurt him. Knight introduced Hendrix to Green Which Village. That's where all the music was, but that's not all. Marijuana, cocaine, and stimulant pills were all introduced to Hendrix and became an integral part of his daily life, as he was an avid user of these drugs. Shortly after joining the band, Animals bassist Chas Chandler approached Hendrix and convinced him to move to London. In London, Chandler became Hendrix's manager and helped him create The Hendrix Experience. This new group consisted of Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding. The experience consisted of R&B with a little eclectic pop. His new band quickly became popular in London, gaining top ten positions in the UK Top Ten. The Hendrix Experience saw its first opportunity arise when Paul McCartney recommended the group to the Monterey International Pop Festival. They joined the festival and opened for The Monkees..
