Essay / Desire to graduate from the University of Connecticut
I always wanted to go to a large university with over 20,000 students and a huge campus. As a high school senior, I considered applying to the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Connecticut Storrs. However, in the end, I only applied to the University of Massachusetts Amherst for various reasons. And I came here knowing that I would change myself to become a better person. I am the youngest of my parents' three daughters. As a child and still today, I am more pampered and protected than my older sisters. Until I was 14, I never stayed away from home without my mother. Even though UConn is the same distance from my home in Burlington, Massachusetts as UMass, the fact that UMass was out of state was a big deal for my parents and I. Additionally, my older sister was attending UMass for 4th grade while I was entering my freshman year. Even though at 17 I was finally living alone with a roommate and without my parents, my parents took comfort in knowing that my sister was there to take care of me. But that didn't happen. My sister was a senior when I was a freshman and she was pursuing a double major and minor. She had a very busy life. It was disappointing at first. I expected my sister to show me where my classes are on this huge campus. But she had no time for me. It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. Being stuck far from home, with no one close to me to guide me, made me learn how to survive in the real world with real, very different people. I came out of my shell and now know how to take care of myself, even in difficult situations. I learned to decide for myself what is right and wrong, and what is good and bad for me. I think... middle of paper ......exactly what UConn can offer me that UMass couldn't offer me. I found various reasons to come to UConn. First, UConn offers physiology and neurobiology as a major in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Not only is this major more closely related to my interests, but this major at this specific college will also be more rewarding because CLAS is among the top research institutions in the country. So my second reason for wanting to attend UConn is because I want to participate in research during my undergraduate career and be a part of a new discovery before I embark on my journey to becoming a doctor. And my third reason is that UConn has to deliver on its great reputation. UConn is among the top universities in the country and is the highest-ranked public university in New England. I want to be proud to graduate from the University of Connecticut and be satisfied with my undergraduate experience..
