  • Essay / Bullying: A Persistent Problem - 1920

A teenager wakes up; they dress in a way that suits them. Maybe the style isn't what's currently "in" but nonetheless, it's what this teen feels good wearing. They never expect to be made fun of all day at school. Elsewhere, in another state, in another school district, a woman doesn't think she's beautiful. She wakes up every day, looks in the mirror and wonders why life is cruel. She goes to school where her beliefs are validated by the senseless and incessant taunts of her classmates. She decides later that night that life is no longer worth living. These are scenarios that seem too horrible to be true, but they are all too real. Bullying is a problem, particularly among schoolchildren, and more needs to be aware and done to curb the disease. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a bully is "a braggart, quarrelsome, and controlling person who habitually harasses and intimidates smaller or smaller people." the weakest people. » The definition allows for a certain leniency. Bullies are not always physically stronger; they don't always go after weak people. But they almost always feel like they have power over the victim. This act is becoming much more common today, especially in schools, where bullying seems to thrive. But there's more to it than the typical, oft-discussed bullying that involves name-calling and physical acts. There is also psychological harassment, which is much more difficult to control. Many acts of psychological harassment persist online, where little can be done to control it. Typically, quarrels between classmates can erupt in the safety of home, and this is the case, quite often, according to statistics published in "Beware of the Cyber-Bully." ...... middle of paper ...... larly Bullied, Survey Shows.
