  • Essay / Athletic Coaching Career - 847

My plan B for my career is to become a high school athletic trainer. The reason I want to become an athletic trainer is because it involves my two favorite activities: ; playing sports and helping other injured athletes. As the years go by, I would like to become a college track and field coach and then become a professional sports track and field coach. The National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) was founded in 1950. NATA helped unify certified athletic trainers. across the country by setting a standard in professionalism, education, certification, research and practice. Gus Guerrero was the first Hispanic sports coach discovered. He began working for the New York Giants in the early 1890s. Ed LaForce was a black athletic trainer working in Major League Baseball beginning in 1895. In colleges, the first black athletic trainer found was Henry Reeves. He began working as a trainer in the late 1890s. An athletic trainer is a healthcare worker who diagnoses and treats people who have suffered injuries to their muscles and bones. Many athletic trainers work under the direction of a doctor and also teach people how to prevent injuries. Overall, salaries range from $26,000 to $65,000 per year, with a median annual income of around $41,000. A professional athletic trainer earns between $40,000 and $100,000 per year or more. When you are in high school, if you take a lot of science and physical education classes, it will begin to prepare you to become an athletic trainer. To become an athletic trainer, you typically need at least a bachelor's degree in athletic training or a related field. You can also earn your master's or doctorate. It usually takes two years to complete a master's degree... middle of paper ... It hurts, and sports are a big part of my life. There are many highs in this career and many lows. One of the best things about this career is that I work with many unique children and adults. I will see many different injuries. As I advance in the professional field, I will learn more about how to repair and treat athletes' injuries and what rehabilitation they can use to recover. I will also learn other ways to prevent injuries, such as: shin splints, pulling a muscle or tendon. If I ever feel like this isn't the career I want to do for the rest of my life, I can always work in a hospital or rehabilitation center with my doctorate. One of the downsides of this career is that there are a lot of injured athletes to lift. Sometimes there are many horrendous injuries. The websites I used for this research were: Careercruising.com and http://www.nata.org/athletic-training..
