Multi-Speed or Reduced Voltage Control StarterMohammad Amin Hilal60061058CM 2181-2Miss. SmithMarch 10, 2014Table Contents:1.0 IntroductionThe centrifugal pump is a type of pump that increases the pressure of the mixture of fluid and solid atoms relative to the centrifugal force. This is the pump used for pumping slurry. Additionally, the pump is also capable of converting electrical energy into potential and kinetic energy of the slurry. Additionally, slurry pumps are typically used to transport high concentration corrosive or abrasive slurries in many industries. The aim of the report is to compare two different starters for sludge pumping, namely variable speed and reduced voltage starter, and recommend one based on maintenance costs and efficiency. 2.0 Background The engineering department of KSB company appointed me as project manager and gave me the task of researching how to increase the efficiency of slurry pumping in our company. The objective of this report is to review and select the best starter for slurry pump based on the performance and ability of the starter to save energy during operation. Therefore, this report discusses two starters, the multispeed control starter and the reduced voltage control starter, and analyzes the main features of both.3.0 TechnologyThis part will illustrate the functionality of reduced speed and multispeed control starters. Additionally, this will verify the main features of both technologies and how these features will be useful in this type of application. 3.1 Reduced Voltage Speed Control Starter in Slurry Pump Power consumption is one of the most serious problems of a slurry pump. About 20 percent of the energy is wasted when starting the slurry p...... middle of paper...... 129(5), 5.
