  • Essay / Group Interaction in the Wu Tang Clan - 1720

Group Interaction in the Wu Tang ClanThe Wu Tang Clan is a nine-member hip-hop group formed in 1992. Since 1992, the group has achieved success in as a group and as a solo artist. Wu Tang Clan is arguably one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time. The group has taken aspects of everything from kung fu to religion and blended them into a unique brand of music that is often imitated but never duplicated. What makes the band able to blend such a wide variety of topics into its music is the diversity and skill of its members. The group consists of Rza, Genius, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, U God, Old Dirty Bastard, Masta Killah, Reakwon and Ghost Face Killah. Each member brings their own style to the group, allowing the group to have a wide variety that encompasses all areas that need to be addressed in a true musical performance. The band can cover many areas when performing a song, unlike other bands who can only perform one musical style. All band members are innate, strong songwriters who stimulate and complement each other. What is a group? The definition of a group is two or more interdependent individuals who influence each other through social interaction. By this definition, the Wu Tang Clan would be considered a group. To say that the Wu Tang Clan is a group based on this definition alone would be incomplete, the group demonstrates many other characteristics of a group. First of all, the group shows a lot of interaction. Interaction is when group members do things with and with others. To break it down even further, interactions can be broken down into tasks or socio-emotional. In task interaction, the group must interact to achieve a goal. Wu Tang C...... middle of paper ......ouup reaches its potential. As I said earlier, when the band plays together, all members reach their potential, and so does the band. It is difficult to say to what extent the group demonstrates transactive memory. Transactive memory occurs when group members remember or do things that they think other group members will not do. The reason I say it's hard to tell if the group demonstrated transactive memory is because I thought that transactive memory is something you have to be part of the group to fully recognize. I would need to have even more access to the group to see how transactive memory manifests itself. I think not fully understanding how transactive memory is used is a good thing. This shows that the group works very well together, as they hide their weaknesses so well that it is not obvious to a fan..
