  • Essay / Essay on Night by Elie Wiesel - 2037

NightThis book is written by a Jewish man named Elie Wiesel; he talks about the atrocities he witnessed as a child committed by the Nazis during World War II. The things mentioned in this book are the infamous Holocaust which claimed the lives of millions of Jews and other ethnic groups. He also found himself deported to the infamous Auschwitz concentration/extermination camp. During his stay in Auschwitz, he met infamous people such as Dr. Josef Mengele, aka "the Angel of Death", known to his patients. He earned this nickname by performing lethal human experiments on condemned Jews and other ethnic groups. The worst part is that these horrible events happened when he was only twelve years old. The experiences he endured lead him to question his religion and, little by little, he loses confidence in God. War rages in Europe. Elie, a twelve-year-old Jewish boy, lives in the town of Sighet, in Transylvania. He is the only son of an Orthodox Jewish family that strictly follows its Jewish tradition. His parents are merchants and his father is a well-respected man within the Jewish community of Sighet. Elie has two older sisters, Hilda and Bea, and a younger sister named Tzipora. Elijah studies the Jewish mystical texts of the Kabbalah with Moshe the Beadle. Moshe becomes Elijah's teacher and teaches him Jewish traditions. The government later expelled the Jews and deported some Jews from Sighet, including Moshe. He returns to Sighet to warn them of the imminent danger, that of the mass execution of Jews throughout Europe. The town of Sighet thought he was crazy and ignored his warning. The townspeople did not believe that Hitler would kill the Jews. A few years later, the town of Sighet now finds itself under the control of Nazi Germany... middle of paper... only food. A few days later, the American army approached; the Nazis decided to kill all the Jews remaining in the camp. Every day, thousands of Jews are shot. Around 20,000 people remained in the camp, the Nazis decided to evacuate and kill everyone who remained in the camp. As the evacuation began, an air raid siren went off, sending everyone inside. Just when it seems that everything has returned to normal and the evacuation will take place as planned, the resistance movement strikes and chases the SS from the camp. A few hours later, the American army arrived at Buchenwald. Now free, the prisoners only think about feeding themselves. Elie was struck by food poisoning and spent weeks in the hospital. When he finally stood up and looked in the mirror, he hadn't seen himself in a mirror in years, he was shocked by his appearance. He said he looked dead..
