Feminism: equal, not more powerfulOn September 20, 2014, Emma Watson took the stage at the United Nations headquarters, she gave a speech explaining why we need the campaign HeForShe, a campaign that describes itself as a “solidarity movement for gender equality that brings together one half of humanity in support of the other half of humanity, for all of humanity” (Home -HeForShe). In her speech, Emma Watson explained her motivation for founding the HeForShe campaign, saying: I want men to take on this role. So their daughters, sisters and mothers can be free of prejudice, but also so that their sons have permission to be vulnerable and human too: to reclaim the parts of themselves that they abandoned and, in doing so, be a truer, more complete version of themselves. (United Nations) This is where the true nature of what feminism is is revealed. So often people think that feminism is about replacing the misogyny of our world with misandry, but that's not the case. A true feminist defines feminism as that men and women share exactly the same rights, not that women should have more rights than men. Although many think this definition should be obvious and cannot understand why people are not feminists, there are people who strongly disagree with this definition. Feminism for various reasons. Men's Rights Activists (MRA), Women Against Feminism (WAF), People of Color (POC), and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community all have some sort of bone to pick with the feminism. POC and LGBT groups all have legitimate qualms about feminism. They see it as the cause of white, heterosexual, middle-class women and feel that their concerns are being ignored and pushed aside, which is sometimes the case. The MRA and WAF are communicated in the middle of the article ......d to people in general. When reading about feminism, the meaning can often be confusing as many people have their own variations on its definition and interpretation. this in a different way, but each of these definitions boils down to equal rights for men and women in social, economic and political areas. Feminists may try changing their name to avoid the negative connotation that follows the word "feminist," but as long as they are pursuing the same goal, it doesn't matter what they call themselves. Everyone should consider themselves a feminist because everyone has something to gain from a successful movement. Feminism needs more men to help it move forward in the movement, because it can never succeed if only half the population is interested in it. Perhaps with the new HeForShe campaign, more progress can be made and we can truly live in a world of equal rights..
